How Often Should You Get Your Hair Cut?

Not sure how often you need to see your stylist in order to achieve strong healthy hair? You may think you don't need to keep up with regular trims (especially when trying to grow your hair out) but getting a haircut every three to four months is a good rule of thumb for most hair types to help it grow out long, strong and healthy.

While a haircut doesn't make your hair grow out faster - hair growth happens at the root - it does improve the appearance of your hair, making it look healthy, shiny, voluminous, and full.

So how do you know it's time for a haircut? There are a few signs that it's time for a trim:

    • You have split ends, single hair strands are weakened and split into two pieces
    • You notice that your hair tangles and snags at the bottom
    • Your hair has a dry, damaged straw-like texture
    • Your curl patterns start losing or changing shape
    • The ends of your hair start breaking off

If you have short hair and want to maintain your short length, two to four weeks is ideal to keep it from looking overgrown.

Mid-length hair can be left for up to two to three months between trims.

If you are growing out or already have long hair, you can go for up to six months in between cuts.

Are you currently rocking curtain bangs or a fringe bang? For optimal maintenance, bangs should be trimmed monthly!

Trimming your hair prevents the breakage and split ends that make it seem like it's growing slowly or not at all.
